Mack Talks Smallville |
Allison Mack, who plays Chloe Sullivan on The WB's Smallville, told SCI FI Wire that her character and Clark (Tom Welling) may explore their relationship in the coming season, the Superman series' second.
"They always knew that they wanted Chloe to have a love for Clark and a crush on Clark, but they never really knew if he was going to return it or not," Mack said in an interview at The WB's fall preview party. "And Tom and I became really good friends on the show, and our chemistry kind of played on camera, and so they decided to go with it for a little while. We'll see how far they take it. And it makes an interesting little twist on his relationship with Lana [Kristin Kreuk] and where they go with that."
Mack added that she's eager for more to happen. "Um, yeah! It's a good storyline for me, so why not? You know, it gives me more camera time." Mack added that she'd like to see her character go to the big city. "I want to see them go to Metropolis," she said. "That's where Chloe's from, and that's Chloe's hometown, and that's ... her natural ... habitat. ... I have suggested it to them several times, so hopefully, we'll see if they listen to me." Smallville will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. in the fall.

Reeve Up For More Smallville |
Alfred Gough, co-creator and executive producer of The WB's Smallville, told SCI FI Wire that Christopher Reeve, the Superman film actor who will guest star in an upcoming episode, could become a recurring player in the show next year.
"Absolutely," Gough said at the winter television press preview in Hollywood. "And he is open to doing that."
Reeve, who played Superman in four feature films, will shoot a guest spot in New York next week with star Tom Welling for the teen-Superman series, playing Dr. Swann, a character who gives Clark Kent (Welling) a crucial piece of information about his origins, Gough said. Reeve's episode is slated to air in mid-February.
But Reeve's character could become a recurring element in the show's third season, Gough said. "We had a wonderful 45-minute conversation with" Reeve, he said. "Sort of pitched him the character and the character's sort of role, not only in the episode, but also in the series, because every hero needs a wise man. And that's really his role in the show. It's sort of the passing of the torch from one generation of Superman to the next." Smallville airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Smallville's Chloe Darkens |
September 2, 2003
Smallville co-star Allison Mack told SCI FI Wire that her character, tyro journalist Chloe Sullivan, is no longer the innocent, spunky and naive girl who thought she knew everything, but really knew nothing. "As the years have gone on, we've really seen her grow and develop and change," Mack said in an interview. "She's become a woman and realized her strengths and her weaknesses. I think she's gotten a lot more guarded, and she's a lot less open to rejection from the people around her. She's been thrown into a horrible situation, and she's been forced to grow up in a lot of ways. So I think that she's matured as a woman."
During season two, Chloe took a bit of a back seat to Clark (Tom Welling) and Lana (Kristin Kreuk), as they explored their burgeoning romantic relationship, and to Pete (Sam Jones III), as he learned of Clark's super secret. In the upcoming season, Mack revealed, Chloe will step to the fore and toward the dark side.
"I think, as you saw last season, that she was screwed over one too many times," Mack said. "Now she has to make the decision 'Am I the most important person in my life or are my friends?' That's a tough question. It's good. It's very tantalizing, the dark side, and it's very interesting to her. Lionel Luthor [John Glover] makes it sound even more tantalizing. So she definitely plays with it and touches it, and I think that Chloe definitely has it in her to go that way." Season three of Smallville will take flight Oct. 1 on The WB, with "Exile," part one of a two-part opener that will conclude the following week with "Phoenix."

Smallville's Clark To Stay Pure |
Smallville executive producer Al Gough told TV Guide Online that Clark Kent will remain a virgin for the foreseeable
future. "Yes, Clark is a virgin ... and will remain so," Gough told the site. "The show is about romance, not about sex,
like Dawson's Creek, where they just hop into bed with each other."
Clark (Tom Welling) is in a love triangle with Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack). But, Gough said, "once you cross that line [of sex], then you forever
change the character and the series. It's not something we want to do at this stage of the game. It'll definitely be down the road."

Smallville Sparks To Fly |
Tom Welling, who plays Clark Kent in The WB's Smallville, told SCI FI Wire to expect a few romantic sparks finally between his character and Chloe, played by Allison Mack, in an upcoming episode.
"I don't know when it airs, but what happens is, she's affected by some sort of kryptonite, I'm affected by red kryptonite, and there are interesting situations that we're both in," Welling said in an interview at the network's winter press preview.
Welling added, "The triangle of Chloe and Lana [Kristin Kreuk] and Clark, ... that's going to get quite tense in the not-too-distant future. It's like a time bomb waiting to happen. I don't know what direction it's going to go, but it's definitely something to keep a close eye on."
In a separate interview, Mack said that shooting her clinch with Welling wasn't all fun and games. "Romantic scenes, when you're doing a television show, ... or on camera at all, are bizarre," she said. "You have, like, 40 people standing around staring you. It's so technical, about where you're placing your head and where the camera is looking at you. ... It's not romantic at all." Smallville airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT Tuesdays.
